Advantages of Gas Springs
Gas springs have numerous advantages that make them interesting alternatives. Firstly, they can provide higher force compared to wire or elastomer springs in a compact space. Additionally, this force is immediate and almost constant over the entire length of the travel, which is itself higher. Thus, they can replace multiple wire springs, reducing the number of springs used and worn.
How to Choose Your Gas Spring?
To determine a gas spring, several parameters must be considered. The first step is based on the tool's stroke and the required force. These elements help determine the following six parameters:
- Body diameter
- Length L1
- Force
- Rod diameter
- If screwing at the back: spacing and screw diameter.

Mounting Gas Springs
Strict adherence to the gas spring mounting instructions is crucial to ensure the safety and lifespan of the tool and springs.
The gas spring must be fixed and placed in a precise housing (within a few tenths relative to the spring's body) since the force must be aligned with the rod. Additionally, it is recommended to use 90% of the travel for safety.
Please note, if the spring body is immersed in oil, there is a risk of joint degradation due to the oil and swarf. If the oil enters the cylinder body, it will lead to increased pressure.
